Statement of Purpose and Philosophy

Functioning as an extension of and in service to the home and church, it is the purpose of Shiloh Christian School to provide a distinctly Christian academic environment for its students.  In cooperation with each student’s parents, Shiloh Christian School seeks to direct the student toward academic, spiritual, and personal excellence.  Recognizing that our Christian walk encompasses all areas of life, it is our purpose to rain young people to function in the world as discerning Christian citizens, striving for discipline and excellence in personal, home, church, work, and civic responsibilities with integrity, industry, and faithfulness.

In this academic environment, we strive to provide a challenging and supportive setting that fully integrates wisdom, knowledge, and faith.  This Christian environment encompasses all areas, including the classroom, athletics, activities, and service; in short, our purpose is to provide, in cooperation with the family and their local church, an atmosphere in which young people can grow as Jesus did “in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.” (Luke 2:52)

We believe that education muse be God-centered; thus, we will endeavor to develop a Biblical world-view within our students.  Realizing that all truth is God’s truth, the academic knowledge our students acquire will take on more significance and depth of meaning when understood in the context of God’s Word.  Our educational programs and methods of instruction will rely on Biblical truth and principles for understanding all subject matter.

Statement of Faith

This statement of faith is more detailed than many because as a non-denominational school we cannot rely on doctrinal positions from a single sponsoring church.

    The Scriptures

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God.  They are the divinely authored truths that we as Christians must accept, and by which we must regulate our lives and actions.  By their own declarations, the Scriptures are able to make us “wise for salvation though faith in Jesus Christ.”  Interpreted by the Holy Spirit, they are an unfailing source of truth.  (Isaiah 40:8; John17: 17; 2 Timothy 3:15-17)

     The Godhead

We believe in the one living and true God, who is one in essence, but eternally existent in the three persons of the Holy Trinity: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each having the same nature and attributes.  God is eternal, the Creator of all things, and the source of all truth.  He is separate from the world and universe, yet everywhere present as the sovereign ruler and sustainer of all things.  (Genesis1:1; Genesis 1:26-27; Isaiah 43:10, 13; Exodus 3:13-14; Matthew 28:19; Colossians 1:17)

The Creation and Fall of Man

We believe God created man in His own image for the divine purpose of glorifying Him.  Though Adam’s original sin, man fell from his divinely created pure nature.  As a consequence, man is under the wrath of God and is eternally lost apart from salvation though faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  (Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 3:1-24; John 3:16-18; Romans 3:23-24; Romans 4:12-21; Romans 6:23)

The Person and Work or Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity, is the only pre-existent, eternal Son of the living God; that He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary; that His death of the cross fully satisfied God’s divine justice and fully accomplished our personal redemption; that His bodily resurrection from the dead confirmed His deity and atoning work, and fully guaranteed the redemption of all who believe; that He is now seated at the right hand of God in heaven, where as high priest He serves as intercessor and advocate for all believers; that He is only mediator between God and man, the head of His body (the church), and the coming universals king.  To those who put their faith in Christ, God guarantees forgiveness of sins, regeneration of affections and actions, and final glorification of the resurrection body.

(Matthew 1:18; John 1:1-3, 14; Acts 4:12; Romans 1:4; II Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:8-9, 11-14,22; Colossians 1:15, 2:9; II Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 4:14, 10:18)

     The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, began His work in the present age at Pentecost, when He came as promised by Christ.  In relation to unbelievers, He convicts of sin, righteousness and judgment; in relation to believers, He regenerates, baptizes in to the body of Christ, indwells, sanctifies, instructs, bestows gifts, and empowers for service.  (Matthew 28:19; John 14:26; John 16:7-15; Acts 1:5, 8; Acts 2:1-40; Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 12:4-13; Ephesians 1:13-14)

     Salvation

We believe that salvation is the gift of God’s grace, and is received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, totally apart from human merit or works.  Christ-like character, righteous living, and good works evidence this salvation, as the believer submits to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, in obedience to the Word of God.  (Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Timothy 1:5; 2 Timothy 1:9; James 1:21-27)

     The Church

We believe that the church is the body of believers in Christ, composed irrespective of denominational or organizational affiliation.  Members of this spiritual body of Christ are directed in Scripture to associate together in local assemblies.  The mission of the church is to make disciples of all peoples and nations, and to bring them to maturity in Christ.  (Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 2:11-22; Ephesians 4:11-16; Colossians 1:28; Hebrews 10:23-25)

     Satan

We believe that Satan, a fallen created being, exists today as the enemy of God’s people.  He persistently seeks to counterfeit the works and the truth of God and to destroy believers.  (Isaiah 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:12-17; Acts 26:21-28; Ephesians 6:10-13; Revelations 12:1-17)

     Future Things

We believe in the imminent, personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.  We believe in the bodily resurrection of all the dead-the saved to eternal life, dwelling forever with Christ-the unsaved to everlasting judgment and condemnation.  (Matthew 24:29-30; Acts 1:11)

Non-Denominational Statement

The statement of faith is fundamental to basic Christian tenets and contains those doctrines to which we unreservedly adhere and teach.  It is our desire to maintain this position.  In order to do so in all fairness, it is necessary that we remind faculty, staff, parents, and students that the following areas are left primarily to the teaching of the home and church:

                    1.  Church government—authority, discipline

                    2.  Time and mode of baptism

                    3.  Security of the believer

                    4. Timing of future events

                    5.  Second work of grace—baptism of the Holy Spirit

                    6.  Gifts of the Spirit—tongues, interpretation of tongues, healing, miracle working, discerning of spirit.

                    7.  Sinless perfection

In honoring this desire concerning the purpose and outreach of the school, there shall be no attempt by student, teacher, or parent to promote these denominational positions.  We desire to remain united in the salvation and love of Christ, avoiding the dissension which may be caused by denominational distinctive.
