 Library day
After consulting the weather forecast for this week, we have scheduled our library trip for Friday, December 11th. This is the warmest day of the week and we are expecting sunshine. Please be sure your student brings his or her library card and remember that Friday’s pickup will be at the Library.

upcoming events:

Christmas Party and Potluck

Be sure and read your emails from PTFS about the upcoming Christmas activities. Once again, they are coordinating the food and fun. This is a finger-food potluck and Mrs. Hall has requested we let her know what we plan to bring.

The children’s Christmas program will be immediately prior to the party which is on December 18th. Please plan to arrive in Mrs. Rubino’s classroom between 11:15 and 11:30. Our program will begin at 11:30. Your students have been practicing, memorizing and researching to prepare for this event.

There is also an ornament exchange as part of the festivities. Your student already has the name of the person for whom they will buy an ornament. Be sure the ornament is wrapped as a present with the recipient’s name when it is brought to school on the 18th

Reminder:
Be sure to send an email response to the newsletter each week. As of Wednesday afternoon, no students will be enjoying the privilege of Jeans Day on Friday. This is quite surprising since our families are usually so prompt about responses.

Classroom Updates

Mrs. Shaw: Room 1

With the extreme weather temperatures this week, we are reminded to come prepared for the elements. Usually we want to play outside for a short period of time and we make several trips to the main building throughout the day. Please be sure your student has the correct outerwear. This can include boots, hats, and gloves along with coats.
Preparation for class can be more than simply having our materials on our desks. Please be sure your student uses the restroom before leaving home. We have had a number of desperate requests for a restroom break within the first ten minutes of the school day. This requires a disruption of the entire class before we even get started on our Bible lesson. Thank you so much for your assistance.
Our classroom pace has suddenly increased. Kindergarten is now doing reading groups and seatwork. First grade has more challenging seatwork and second grade is learning to work independently. This makes for a busy time. I am pleased and proud as each of them has taken the new challenges well. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, especially about new material.

This week my main two reminders are:
                         1) Christmas projects due on the 16th.
                         2) Remember to read for Book-It

thanks!
Our Thanksgiving program and dinner was a wonderful success and no single person deserves all of the credit. I would like to issue a heartfelt thanks to the many hands that worked together to achieve this goal. Some organized the menu and brought decorations. Others brought a dish and helped with clean-up. Whatever your part, I am most grateful.

Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Rubino would also like to thank our wonderful PTFS for the thoughtful gift we received. You make us proud to be a part of the family here at Shiloh Christian School.

upcoming events:

Book-It

December goals were sent home this week. Parents are asked to sign the monthly forms before turning them in. Students cannot receive their certificate without it! Congratulations to all our Kindergarten through grade 6 students, for achieving all of the November goals. We love reading!

Christmas Celebration:
Nothing is better than celebrating Christmas and I try to make it last for the whole month of December. Our art work, music, and Bible lessons are all part of our celebration. It is such a joy to be able to celebrate Christ in Christmas!
Additionally, we will be having our Christmas party and presentation on December 18th. The program will begin at 11:30 with the lunch and activities beginning at noon. Students will be excused at 1:30 on the 18th for Christmas break. This way, we should be able to conclude the entire program and still have time to return everything to an orderly state.

Reminder:
Be sure to send an email response to the newsletter each week. Because of the holiday last week, we only sent an email but only two families responded. Mrs. Rubino sent a reminder email, but with no results. All other students were scheduled to miss Jeans Day tomorrow but instead, they were each given a “mercy”. We know how much the students look forward to the Friday uniform changes so please help us provide this privilege to them.

Ornament Exchange:
December 18th will be the annual Christmas party and we will have an ornament exchange as part of the festivities. Our class has already exchanged names so your child should already know who they need to buy an ornament for. If they do not remember, please contact Mrs. Shaw because I kept a record for just that purpose.

Bible memorization is a regular part of our curriculum but second grade students are challenged to work quickly this month. They have only one week to learn a passage in Luke 2. Please spend a little extra time working on this verse with your second grader this week. I am always amazed at how much they can memorize so quickly!

Christmas projects are due on December 16th. Please let me know if your student is having trouble thinking of a topic. I’m excited to see what the students come up with.
I would like to remind all of my students to be aware of due dates. I spend a good amount of time every week creating personalized lists of what assignments are due for the week. These lists also include page numbers for quizzes and test. Not only are these sheets posted in the classroom, they are placed in each student’s planner every week. Thus, there is no excuse for late work. Please help your student be vigilant about upcoming assignments, quizzes, and tests.

Finally, on the 17th of December I will not be at school. My sister is flying in from Washington to visit. I will, however, be in on the 18th.
