Notes
upcoming events:
Canned Food Drive ends
on Friday! This is your last chance to bring non-perishable food items for the
Senior Center. They provide Meals on Wheels throughout the year as well as holiday meals and we are hoping to bless them well.
Mrs. Paslay will be delivering everything on Friday so please bring your donation to the bin in Mrs. Shaw’s classroom
by Friday morning! Three cheers for Mrs. Paslay who organized this activity and kept us motivated!
Reading incentive program: Book-It
Kindergarten
through grade 6 have started the Book-It reading program! Each grade level has a different reading goal for each month. Each
student keeps their own records and turns in his or her chart at the end of the month. If they meet their goal, they are rewarded
with a Pizza certificate! We love Book-It!
H1N1 Vaccines: Information on availability of H1N1 vaccines has been
passed on by Mrs. Roemer: Central District Health has informed us that students in smaller schools can call the CDH office
to set up an appointment. Also, the flu shot will be available on Saturday, November 21 at West Elementary. CDH suggested
that parents should call ahead for an appointment at the Saturday clinic to get their children vaccinated. The number is:
(208) 587-4407.
Thanksgiving Celebration: November 24th will be the last day of class
before the Thanksgiving Holiday. We will have a small program and Thanksgiving meal at noon. PTFS has graciously taken on
the task of coordinating the food while our teachers will be organizing the short program.
PTFS has requested that all food be delivered to the church kitchen at 11:30. Please have it ready to serve at this
time (hot food should be cooked and warm, cold food should be refrigerated) so that all parents will be free to enjoy the
festivities.
Thank you! We owe a big "thank you" to one of our local churches. Calvary Chapel
donated a variety of art supplies. These kinds of donations help us stretch our funds and allow the students to participate
in many creative art projects. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Classroom Updates Mrs. Shaw: Room 1 Ornament Exchange: December 18th will be the annual Christmas party
and we will have an ornament exchange as part of the festivities. Our class has already exchanged names so your child should
already know who they need to buy an ornament for. If they do not remember, please contact Mrs. Shaw because I kept a record
for just that purpose.
Mrs. Rubino: Room 2 Thanksgiving is nearly
here! I am so excited to go home and see my family. However, that means that we only have a day and a half to get things done
before our yummy luncheon and early release. I will be asking the students to focus as much as they can on Monday and Tuesday
to cut down on the amount of homework they take home over the break. When we return from break we will be doubling up. This
will help us make up class time for the awesome field trip to the Discovery Center.
I have given all students a “Things Due” sheet for November 23rd-December 4th. It
has been glued into the junior high/senior high notepads and placed inside the elementary notebooks. I hope that this helps
keep us aware of all due dates.
All of my students will be doing a tri-fold poster board for the Christmas program. A detailed instruction sheet was
given to each student. All posters need to be completed and brought to class on the 16th of December. I am looking
forward to seeing what they choose to present. J
Remember to read for Book-It!

Notes upcoming events: Veterans Day Tomorrow (November 11) - NO SCHOOL
Canned Food Drive has started!
We are still working on our
first tote of non-perishable food for the Senior Center. We would love to give them a nice selection of holiday foods and
staples. The Senior center provides Meals on Wheels throughout the year as well as holiday meals. It is easy to donate! Please
bring your non-perishable items to school and place them in the grey bin in Mrs. Shaw’s room. Please make sure nothing
is past it’s expiration date! The food drive ends November 20th so time is short!
Reading incentive program: Book-It Although we will have another reading
program in February, we have been able to join the Book-it program! We will be setting goals next week for each grade level.
Letters to Veterans:
We had a great time making cards
for our Veterans! Thank you to Mrs. Rubino and the American Legion Post for arranging for delivery. There were several creative
ideas and each card had a message of thanks!
Thanksgiving Celebration:
November 24th will be
the last day of class before the Thanksgiving Holiday. We will have a small program and Thanksgiving meal at noon. PTFS has
graciously taken on the task of coordinating the food while our teachers will be organizing a short program. If you have some
spare Thanksgiving or Fall decorations that we could use, please contact Mrs. Shaw.
Library Day: We will be walking to
the library on Tuesday afternoon. We are trying to determine how much time we need at the library. Thus, this week we will
be experimenting with a later start time. We will leave the building at 2:45 PM. This will still give the students a good
20 minutes of looking for books. If this doesn’t work; we will change it. J Please pick up your child at the library
at 3:20.
Classroom Updates Mrs. Shaw: Room 1 We have a Classroom Volunteer!
Kara Christiansen, who graduated from Shiloh last year, is volunteering three afternoons a week. She reads with the
students, assists with seatwork questions, does weekly art, and helps with preparation for the next day’s assignments.
All of this allows Mrs. Shaw to work with Mrs. Hamilton and perform other administrative duties. Hooray for Miss Kara! We
really love all the wonderful things she does. The students love the one on one reading and individual help times.
Mrs.
Rubino: Room 2
It was so fun to deliver the letters to American Legion. Thank you to all the students for investing in the lives of
others. The gentleman I delivered the letters to said that they would like to do a presentation for us on flag etiquette sometime.
What a great way to interact positively with the community. Things are going well in room 2. However, one area that
has been troublesome is late work. I warned the students today that after 5 late assignments in a quarter, they will be placed
on academic probation. Since there is no warning step between staying in for recess/lower grades students who turn in 3 late
assignments in a quarter will receive a detention. I am trying my best to keep you updated about this issue. I will let you
know in your child’s planner if he or she has any late work. Don’t forget…no help class
tomorrow.
Have a happy Veterans Day!

4th Newsletter Administrative Notes upcoming events:
Canned Food Drive has started!
November
marks a month of thanksgiving at Shiloh Christian School. The PTFS will be collecting canned foods to be donated to Mountain
Home Senior Center. Please bring your non-perishable items to school. There is a grey bin in Mrs. Shaw’s room for your
donations. Please make sure nothing is past it’s expiration date! The food drive ends November 20th so time
is short!
Reading incentive program: We will be participating
in a reading program sponsored by Roaring Springs Water Park! This program will not start until late January or early February
but the prize is worth the wait… a free pass to Roaring Springs! We will have more information as the time approaches.
Meantime, we are still hoping that the Book-it program will have last minute cancellations which would allow us to participate
until the second program begins!
Letters to Veterans:
November 11th
is Veterans Day and Mrs. Rubino is organizing our students to write letters to thank 10 veterans at our local American Legion
Post. What better way to show our thanks to our servicemen and women, than to show Christ’s love to them. She will take the letters to the post personally on the 9th or 10th of November.
We will be writing the letters as a group on Monday!
Thanksgiving Celebration: November 24th will be the last day of class
before the Thanksgiving Holiday. We will have a small program and Thanksgiving meal at noon. PTFS has graciously taken on
the task of coordinating the food while our teachers will be organizing a short program. If you have some spare Thanksgiving
or Fall decorations that we could use, please contact Mrs. Shaw.
Classroom Updates Mrs.
Shaw: Room 1 Room 1 is a fun place to learn and
we encourage excitement and participation. At times, the students can become over stimulated and forget classroom etiquette.
In our desire to create a place where students are respected by each other, we have made some adjustments to our discipline
and behavior policy. If a student requires five warnings in a day, they will spend ten minutes of their recess inside. If
this happens three times in a week, the student will receive a detention the following Wednesday. This adjustment is not designed
to punish, but rather to teach self-control. We are attempting to teach them how to respect others and we are trying to create
a better learning environment. If you have any questions, please come talk to me or send me an email. We
are also reading a biography of Amelia Earhart. Mrs. Shaw is reading aloud, usually in the afternoon. This has really fired
their imaginations and I am looking forward to other books when we have completed it. If you have a specific book that you
would like to suggest, please let me know. We may not be able to get to all of your ideas, but I want to present a variety
of stories.
Mrs. Rubino: Room 2 The Discovery Center field
trip was awesome! The students behaved very well, and everyone learned a lot. The museum staff was great and our presentation
was interactive. Thank you to all of the moms that came on the trip. You help was crucial to the success of the trip.
There will be no field trip in the month of December. December is an extremely busy month and is shortened due to Christmas
break. In January we will hopefully be having two different presentations made by community members. I will keep you updated
as the dates draw closer. On Monday we will be writing our letters for the veterans
that were provided to us by the American Legion. This will be a whole-school activity. I am excited to get our students involved
in giving to others.
Enjoy your weekend!
