Mrs. Colwell: Room 2
My big reminder for this week is about the McCall trip on Monday February 9th (which is coming right up).
In the e-mail about the newsletter I sent a list of who I know of that is coming and how much space they have in their
vehicle for other students. If you are planning on going on this trip and are not on my list please e-mail
me right away as we are making all of our final plans. At this point we are going to have the students
pack their own lunch and I am working with the City of McCall to find them an indoor location to eat. We
are looking at leaving from the school at about 7:00am so that we can be home between 3:00-4:00 pm. If
you have any other questions about this trip please feel free to get a hold of me!!!
Also Monday is “Day 100” for my classroom so as a reward
the 7-12 grade students will be released 100 minutes early (1:35pm) that day!!! This is
also Spelling Bee so if your child does not have a ride to leave early they are welcome to go and play games in the fellowship
hall with the 1-6 grade students!
Mrs. Rubino: Room 1 & Room 3
Hello All! I just have a few updates for this week. The
first is that book-it time sheets are due on Monday. Second, I wanted to remind everyone that students are not released in the afternoon until I personally
tell each one that he or she is dismissed. Everyone has been doing well with this, but I just wanted to remind you. The reason
I do this is for safety. I am big on making sure that I see who each student is going home with. So thank you for continuing
to let me know if someone other than yourself will be picking up your child. It helps me tremendously. I also wanted to mention that Kindergarten will be released at 11:20 tomorrow. I will be leaving around that time. That means that I will not be here tomorrow afternoon. I will have a substitute,
so at the end of the day please help her maintain sanity as much as possible. J Finally, I wanted to say a big thank you to all the parents who helped with the Albertsons field trip. The students
had a blast and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks sooooo much! Don’t
forget: …to send a water bottle with your student every day Mrs. Lawrence:

Hello everyone! This Monday we are having our in-house Spelling Bee! I am so excited for this event. The kids have
been practicing during class and I think are ready for it. Please still continue to have them study their words at home. After
the Spelling Bee we are going to have a fun day of spelling games, food and watching a movie. I need some parents to volunteer
to bring in about 5 bags of popcorn. If you can bring some in please let me know. Also remember that your student still needs
to bring money for lunch ($5) as if we were going to Twin Falls. Mrs. Colwell will be spending the morning
ordering lunch in for a big fun meal!!! Have a great weekend!
Administrative Notes Mrs.
Colwell:
Principal
Well on the administrative end there is a lot going on behind the scenes in the everyday workings of the school but I think
that is about it.
I would like to say thank you to everyone for being so supportive and understanding while my schedule is far
from normal. The students and especially the other teachers and staff have really made the difference in
my temporary transition to part-time being a success. I appreciate all of them and all of you for working
together to help the school and each student’s education stay on task and headed in the right direction.
Thank you again and have a great week!!!

22nd Newsletter Classroom Updates
Mrs. Colwell: Room 2 Well first let me start by apologizing to my parents.
Report cards are getting closer to coming out but because I have been struggling with some health issues and have been
spending some time in the hospital, I am not quite done with these. I also wanted to give the kids a couple
more days to improve their grades in a few areas. I am hoping to have semester report cards out next week. On a similar topic my doctor has instructed
me to reduce my work schedule for a few weeks while we get some of my health concerns under control. Mrs.
Hamilton will be filling in during the afternoons for me for the next several weeks so if you need to contact me please try
and do so before 12:00. After that feel free to give me a call on my cell phone. I will
e-mail that number out. Breakfast
Day is tomorrow!!! Remember all parents are welcome to come and join us and we do ask that each
child bring $2.00 if they are not bringing items for breakfast day. Don’t forget that your child
can wear PJs to school tomorrow as long as they are appropriate!!!
Mrs. Rubino: Room
1 & Room Hello All! This week we have had some fun trips in elementary. Tuesday was our library
trip and today is our elementary Albertsons field trip! I am excited for this event. Please remember that because of how busy
February is we will not have another library trip until March. If you are in a pinch, you can renew your books online. Well,
I think that’s about it for my updates. Have a great rest of the week!
Don’t forget: …to send a water bottle with your student every day
Mrs. Lawrence:
Room 3
Hello everyone! This week has been
an exciting week for the younger students! Between the library trip, today’s trip, and only having a four-day school
week, the students are having a blast! First graders were sent home this week with a spelling list on the back of their planners.
Since the spelling bee was canceled and we are holding our own I thought it would be fun and great practice to have the younger
students get involved too. Please have your students continue to study their words. Administrative Notes
Mrs. Colwell: Principal
In the last couple of weeks we have had a lot of parents
with questions, comment or concern. We love talking with our parents and taking care of these issues but
because of our schedule here at school I would like to request that parents make their initial contact with teachers through
e-mail or by appointment. I know that many of you don’t see us except when you drop your student
off in the morning or pick them up in the afternoon and I do understand that this is the most convenient time for you to talk
to us. Unfortunately this is the worse time for us. Usually we are getting ready for
our day and making last minute adjustments or arrangements in the morning and in the afternoon we are trying to make sure
every student gets home with the right people, planners are getting signed, and that the building gets shut down properly.
These short drop-by conversations wouldn’t seem like they would effect our day very much but when we have over
20 students it only takes a parent talking to us 1-2 times a month for us to have a parent in every single day during these
key times. This can make it difficult for us to manage the beginning and end of the school day.
Our teachers can access the e-mail from home (and do so on a regular basis) so if you could just send them an e-mail
and put their name in the subject line that would be wonderful. We have had a couple of parents make scheduled appointments
and we really appreciate that. We want to work with each of you and do all we can to answer any questions
or resolve any concerns so please keep contacting us. We just hope that this will help us manage our day,
your child’s education, and your questions, comments, and concerns more effectively. Thank you so
much for working with us on this area!
Also, as I mentioned before, I am having some medical problems and need to take afternoons
off for a while. I know this makes me a little less accessible but again I will be checking the e-mail
often so feel free to e-mail me or call me on my cell phone.

Mrs. Colwell: Room 2
First semester report cards for Room #2 may be delayed a day or two as I have had one doctor’s appointment after another
this week. Thanks for you patience and I will have those out as soon as possible.
Breakfast Day is next Friday January 23rd. My students will be giving speeches on different
food groups. We do need a few food items for this event so if you could donate any of the following items
that would be wonderful. Please let me know right away so I can get everything organized and ready.
Parents are invited and kids get to wear their PJs and need to bring $2.00 for lunch.
1 loaf bread, Pancake mix, 1 bag bagels, 1 box (healthy) cereal, 3 large
bottles of 100% Juice, 15 apples, 15 bananas, 2 dozen eggs, 1 pack
bacon, 1 pack sausage, 2 gallons milk, 20 small yogurts, 2 containers of
crème cheese, 1 bottle syrup, 1 tub butter
Also now that we are halfway through the school year it is time to start thinking about graduation!!!
In the next 4-8 weeks I will need to have a meeting with the parents who have a student graduating this year.
Also I found cap, gown, and tassel sets for $20-$25 per student (this does include shipping). If
you would like me to go ahead and order these please let me know. The seniors are already working a few
items so I’m sure it is going to be a great event!
Mrs. Rubino: Room 1 & Room 3
Hello All! This week has been very
hectic with nine-weeks exams, report cards, and much more so I wanted to make a few reminders.
My first reminder is that K-6 will be traveling to Albertsons on Main Street (in town) on January 22nd. I have one driver for that
so far. Next Tuesday, we will be taking our elementary afternoon to the library. We will leave the school at 2:00 and return around 3:10 in time to clean up.
This is a bit different than the normal time since past library trips have been a little longer than the students really needed.
I will need drivers for this trip also. I have the same parent driving for the library trip, but she can only take about 3 students. So…..if
you can drive for either of these field trips, please let me know as soon as you can. My last two reminders
regard the math flashcard record form and Book-It. I know I handed out flashcards to almost every student for the math flashcard
record. So far only one first-grader has turned in a record form. Thus, I would like all students to bring their flashcards back to school.
Once all flashcards are back, we can get back on track with the record forms. As far as Book-It goes, I am happy to report
that more students seem to be participating this month. I am going to require that students who have not participated in Book-It
so far do so either this month or February/March. This is due to the fact that reading is crucial to every academic subject and in-school reading
is never sufficient to help students continue to progress. Thank you to all the students who have participated so far. I hope
you have enjoyed the yummy pizzas you have earned. J
Don’t forget: …to send a water bottle with your student every day Mrs. Lawrence:

Hello everyone! I am sure everyone
got the email about the Spelling Bee but if you did not receive one the Spelling Bee trip to Twin Falls was canceled. However,
we are going to hold our own Spelling Bee at school that day! So please continue to have your students study at home. Also
they need to bring their folders to school every day. We will start having practice for the Bee next week. This week has been
a busy one with 9 weeks exams, report cards, and getting two new students. I am very excited that we have a new third grader
and first grader. I hope everyone has a great weekend! Administrative Notes
Mrs. Colwell: Principal
Many of you may have noticed that Mrs. Hamilton has been out for the last couple of weeks. She had a family
emergency and needed to take some time off. Because of this if you would like to help drive for our Elementary
Library Day please contact Mrs. Rubino as we do need several people to help us out with this.
We have been having a lot of problems with Tardies since we got back from Christmas Break. Please remember
that for your student to be on time they need to have their stuff put away and be sitting in their chair with the materials
they need for their first class at 8:00am. Also elementary students need to remember to go to the bathroom
before school starts. On a similar note I just wanted to remind parents that we need an e-mail, phone call, or note by 9:00am
if you child is going to be absent that day. If you know ahead of time please contact us the day before.
Thanks for your help in these areas. Also I think there was a small laps of time where the new comment
box at the bottom of this page wasn’t working but it should be up and running now, so if you would rather respond that
way than through e-mail it will come directly to our school’s e-mail address!
Remember we do still need drivers for the following events. I have had a couple of kids mention that their
parent is going but I haven’t heard anything to that effect so please just let me know if you plan on driving for on
of these events and thanks again for all the volunteer help you all do!!!

Well we have a lot coming up in the next couple of months!!! First semester report cards should be coming
out towards the end of next week so make sure to keep a look our for those. Breakfast Day is on Friday January 23rd.
This is going to be a really fun event! The student council will be organizing this day and the
emphasis is teaching students the importance of eating breakfast. There will be a hot lunch that day ($2
per person) with lots of breakfast foods and the best part is that we can all wear our pajamas to school (appropriate ones
of course)!!! We will need parents to volunteer to bring some food items (we will be sending out by e-mail
in the next week or so). Also if you just want to come and have lunch with us for the day please feel free!!!
Our McCall Winter Carnival trip is quickly approaching!!! I need to see how many drivers I can get for
that day (Monday February 9th). It looks like I might be able to drive a 15 passenger van but
we will still need a few more vehicles depending on how many parents are planning on coming. I am super
excited about this trip!!!
Well to wrap it up most of you have probably already heard from your student(s) but my husband and I are expecting our first
child in August. We are really excited (although I would love to be done with the being sick part)!
Mrs. Rubino: Room 1 & Room 3
I hope that everyone’s break was wonderful.
My husband and I really enjoyed going back home and spending an extended time with family. He even got to go to California
to visit his aging grandparents for a couple of days. J I have
a few things to cover this week. The first is to congratulate all of the students who met their December reading goals. We
even had a couple of students double and triple their goal! January time sheets were sent home earlier in the week. I encourage
you to keep working on these at home. Reading outside of school is a HUGE factor
in student academic success. Thank you for helping your
child stay dedicated with this.
Second, most of the elementary students are taking nine-weeks exams this week and next week. These tests have a big impact
on semester grades so please help them study for them. I have sent home review
sheets for history and science for every student so they
should know what to study. If your child was asked to retake a test, this needs to be completed by tomorrow. Just
an update that the elementary students (K-6) will be taking a field trip to Albertsons on January 22nd. The field trip is scheduled for 10:30-11:30
and will focus on nutrition. If you can drive students for this trip please let me know. Finally,
the January library trip will be on January 20th. This will be the only library trip until March.
This is due to the busy nature of both January and February (field trips and holidays). If you need to renew any books you
may do that online at http://mountainhome.lili.org/ . To renew, go to “Library Catalog” and click on “My Account.” From there
you will be prompted to fill in your library card number and pin. Finally, click on “Checked out/Renew” and follow
the directions. Have
a wonderful weekend. J Don’t
forget: …to send a water bottle with your student every day … I still need a women’s shoebox. I have one
box, but need two in order to let my Kindergartners do their manger scene art project.
Mrs. Lawrence: Room 3
Hello everyone! I hope and pray that y’all had
a very blessed Christmas break. I really enjoyed the time off!
The spelling bee is less then a month
away! Please have your student studying at home and bringing their words to school to study. For the spelling bee I still
need some volunteers to drive us to Twin Falls and back so please let me know if you can help. The student’s memory
verses are due soon. Please practice these verses with your students at home.
First Grade- Proverbs 3:5-6, Romans 10:9
Third Grade- Hebrews 11:23-26 Forth
Grade- 1 Corinthians 13
Six Grade- Matthew 7:15, John 9:15, Matthew 9:38, John 8:31-32 Administrative Notes
Mrs. Colwell: Principal Today we sent home forms where you can order a subscription of Highlights.
If you would like participate in this opportunity we just ask that you return the form by next Friday (January 16th).
The school does get some fun free things if we have enough people order a subscription but please don’t feel
pressured to do so if you decided you would rather not. Also we started our “dish free” new
year and the students seem to be doing great. This has really helped us in the time management area as
we have more time in class and less time on chores in the kitchen. Thanks for your help with this!!!
Finally in the next couple of months we do have a lot of events happening where we need drivers to help us out if possible.
Be low I have listed these events and who to contact if you can drive. Thanks for all you do!
