Mrs. Colwell:

Well last Friday we had a fabulous time at the corn maze and I really enjoyed this time getting to know my students even better!!!

I am also excited about the grades I am sending home this quarter.  I feel like all of the students are at least up to par and several of them fall far above that mark.  Thanks for all you do with your students to help them succeed in the classroom!  I am gone today (Thursday) so I sent report cards home with my students yesterday!  I did tell all the students that they will need to have a parent respond with a written note or e-mail by Friday to let me know they received a report card.

I also want to say a big THANK YOU to my students who have really helped me out this week!  They are really stepping up and taking care of things and I appreciate that.  I want to say a special thanks to Patrick Blalock out student council secretary for taking on the responsibility of making sure this newsletter was posted today.  These kids are amazing and I can’t wait to see what they do with their adult lives!

I would also like to ask for your prayer, as this weeks has been a whirlwind for me.  Thank you for all of your support!

This week has gone fairly smooth for me. I do have a couple of updates for you, though. The first is a reminder that book-it time logs with parent signatures are due on Friday. J Continue to read and track your time at home. (The next library day is November 18th)

Last night I was thinking of fun things to do with the students and was thinking of showing a Veggie Tales movie for an activity time one day. I was thinking maybe the Jonah movie if I can get it from Netflix. If anyone feels that they would not like their child to watch this movie, please let me know and I will provide an alternate activity for him or her. I would also like to show this same movie to the Kindergartners for their button-jar party. Again, please let me know if you would like an alternate activity scheduled for your child during this time.

As always, thank you to the ladies that copy planners, make planners, help in the afternoons, clean towels, and everything else they do that helps make our lives better! We truly appreciate it.

Hello everyone! We have had another great week at SCS! It was my privilege to do chapel this week. Last week we finished taking our memory verse grades. I am so proud of how everyone did. Our first nine weeks of school has ended and it went by so fast! Report cards will be going out today. We have had quite a few absences this week. If absences are currently affecting your student’s grades then I will let you know when I can get your students report cards out to you. Just another quick reminder that on Wednesdays we do not have access to the fellowship hall during morning break. Please continue to have your students bring their coats and snacks to classroom on that day. Also if you could have students who will be participating in the spelling bee bring their folders to class everyday. Lastly I just want to say thanks again to all the volunteers we have had this week.

Well Report Cards are coming home today and with that we have Parent Teacher Conferences coming up next week.  Remember that these will be from 4-6 pm on Thursday November 6th here at the school.  All of our teachers will be in their rooms so you can go and visit each of them at your convenience.

Also a reminder that because of the Parent Teacher Conferences we will be releasing the students at 1:30 on that Friday, November 7th!!!

Remember that the Fall Fundraiser starts this Monday!!!  Everything is ready and the kids are gearing up for this event!!!  Our student council is pretty much running this event and they are learning so much in the process!  I am really proud of them!

Also I just wanted to mention keeping our board members in your prayers.  They all work incredibly hard and are very dedicated people.  They are always focusing on making Shiloh the best it can be and use wisdom when tackling many of the struggles and opportunities that arise here at Shiloh.  These people have been instrumental in the proud history we have here at Shiloh and in the success we see today! The next board meeting will probably be next week.  I will send out e-mail once we have the day and time nailed down, as we would love to have you come and join us!  If you have any other questions on this topic please feel free to contact Evanna Hamilton (Secretary/Board Member) or myself!

So far 9 weeks exams are looking pretty good but make sure to keep those students studying for a few more days!!!

Tomorrow night (October 24th) the 7th-12th graders will be going to the corn maze!!!  Remember that this is not a formal school outing and that the families of these students are invited to come have a great time with all of us!!!  We will be meeting at the school at 6:30 and make sure to dress warm! ( http://queysmaze.com )

We will be starting a signup sheet next week for our Thanksgiving Meal on Tuesday, November 25th so make sure you keep a look out for that!!!  This should be a really fun event!

It is time for nine-week exams! That means lots and lots of studying for students and lots and lots of time for me making review sheets for some of the tests.
J Please continue to work with your children at home to prepare them for these exams. For most of the upper elementary students, these tests count for a quarter of their nine-week grades. Thank you for the time you have already put in helping them prepare!

On a logistical note, it would make life much easier for the staff and students if they brought a water bottle (filled with water only) to keep in their lockers. Currently our drinking fountain is broken. It was leaking all over the carpet! Having a water bottle in a locker will reduce time spent on getting cups from the kitchen and either washing those cups or trying to label plastic cups so that we aren’t spreading germs. J

I also wanted to let the elementary parents (1st-6th) know that a permission slip will be coming home soon for all library trips taken this year. We decided to just make one field trip form since nearly every library trip consists of the same things: parent drivers, library cards, reading J, and fun. Please return the form as soon as you can. The students seem to really enjoy these trips so I plan to continue holding them at least once a month.

I hope Book-It is going well! Again if you have any questions regarding Book-It or any of the other updates I have listed, feel free to contact me. Thank you again for all you do for your students and for the school.

Hello parents! This week we have been wrapping things up for our first nine weeks. I cannot believe how fast it has gone by! I have just a couple quick reminders.

Again I just wanted to remind everyone that on Wednesday mornings we do not have access to the fellowship hall during the morning break so please have students bring their snacks and coats to class.

Also my students who will be in the spelling bee in February need to take home and bring back their spelling lists that are in the blue folder every day. When they have free time during class I want them to be studying their lists.

I want to again say a big thank you to all the parents who have been coming in every week to volunteer! You are very much appreciated. We have been taking our memory verse grades this week and so far the grades have been great! I am very pleased. First grade will take their memory verse grade on Friday. Their verses are Psalm 34:8-13. Please work with them at home on these verses. Thanks so much!

Well this week a lot has been happening!!!  Our new website is up and running and our new e-mail was launched yesterday!!!  We are really excited about these changes and the benefits it will provide our current and prospective students and parents!!!

            Website: www.shilohchristianschool.net

            E-Mail:    office@shilohchristianschool.net

Our first 9-weeks here at Shiloh has been a whirlwind!!!  The kids seem to be doing well and lots of new and fun changes have been happening.  I just wanted to remind parents to keep a lookout for those first quarter report cards.  They should be coming home to you next Thursday!!!

Remember that the Fall Fundraiser starts one week from Monday!  All the materials are ready to go and we are getting really excited around here for this event!!! (for more details see last week’s “Administrative Notes”)

Finally I just wanted to let you all know that the last set of cartridges Mrs. Hamilton turned in to “Cartridges for Kids” earned the school $39.25.  This as well as Boxtops really add up and help our school in so many ways.  For more information on these programs see the following websites!!!

I also wanted to remind all parents that next week is our 9-week mark so your student will probably have several tests next week.  A Beka does weight these tests pretty heavily so you will want to make sure they are getting in some good study time and are prepared for these exams.

This week we finalized our student council for this year.  They have some great plans for events they want to put on this year and I am really excited to see all the great things they do.

Next Friday (October 24th) the 7th-12th graders will be going to the corn maze near Bruneau.  This is not a formal school outing as it isn’t during school hours but we thought it would be fun to get together and go one night.  The families of these students are invited if they would like to come and we will be meeting up at the school at 6:30pm to head out to the maze!!!  For more information see http://queysmaze.com.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and here at Shiloh we have an age-old tradition of having a HUGE Thanksgiving meal on the Tuesday before the big family holiday.  We usually get parents to volunteer to bring different items and spend the afternoon just having a great time enjoying each other!  We will be getting lists out there soon but you might start thinking about how you might want to be involved and if you have anything special you would like to make/bring just e-mail us and we will put you on the list!  This sould be a really fun event!!!

To prevent my updates from being HUGE and to help separate classroom happenings from school wide topics I have added an “Administrative Notes” section to our update.  Make sure to check that as well!!!

Well, this weekend was a whirlwind. A winter storm hit Salt Lake so we didn’t end up going there. However, at 5:30 PM on Friday night we decided to go home to Silverdale, Washington. So….around 3:30 Am on Saturday morning, we arrived in Silverdale. It was so wonderful to see my parents, and I hadn’t seen my sisters since June so I was really excited. We got back late on Monday night so I felt like I was sleepwalking on Tuesday. Hee hee. J

Now for the updates…on Friday we had a nummy hot lunch provided by Mrs. Crowe. It was neat to see high schoolers playing with elementary students during the indoor recess immediately following. On Wednesday Mrs. Jones brought in some yummy cookies so all the students got to enjoy a tasty treat. Thanks Mrs. Jones! Library day went very well. Just a reminder to the students that we need to be even quieter than we are in class when we are in the library since we are guests in the building.

Book-It officially starts today! The students are really excited about it. A form was sent home from Book-It explaining the program. I also attached a reading log for students to record how many minutes they read. Please make sure they actually read how long they said they did. Also, the only reading that counts is non-school reading. What I mean by that is that it has to be on top of the reading they already do for science, history, reading class, etc. I’m excited to start the program. Let me know if you have any questions.

My last note is for the Kindergarten parents. Thank you so much for picking your children up at 11:45. J In the future if you are running late, check in the office for your child. I will send them there so that I am able to take care of whatever I need to get done, and this way they are still supervised during that time. Thank you again!

We have had another exciting week here at SCS. The students had a great time on the library trip this week! Just a little reminder that on Wednesdays we do not have access to the fellowship hall during our morning break time. Please have the students bring their coat and snack to class on that day. Thanks so much! In this last week I have given the older students blue folders with spelling bee words in them. We will participate in a
spelling bee in February. I want the students to take home and bring back their spelling bee folders every day. When we have time in class they will need them to study. Lastly, I just want to say thanks to all my parents who come in and have been helping with the planners! It is a big blessing to have you help out.

Well let me start by talking about our Fall Fundraiser for just a little bit.  The official start date will be Monday, November 3rd.  This will be the day your students get their catalogs and supplies.  The basic goal markers for students are $80 of product to earn their Yearbook, $120 of product to also earn their sweater, and $160 in product to add a new external hard drive and a refurbished computer to our school.  Each Monday we will be collecting the student’s orders and money so they don’t have to hang on to everything the entire length of the fundraiser.  We will conclude our Fall Fundraiser on Monday, December 1st so that students have plenty of time (including Thanksgiving) to try and achieve their goals.  This should be a pretty fun and fairly easy fundraiser.  We also don’t want to put a financial burden on parents so we are going to encourage the kids to sell to people in their church, other families members, friends, etc.  We know with Christmas coming that some of you would like to do some ordering which is great, we just don’t want you to feel like you need to buy product to help you kid reach their goals.  From experience with past fundraisers, these goals are very doable.  At the very most your child would only need a minimal order from about 11 people to reach their $160 goal.  We are really excited about what this fundraiser can provide you student!!!  Again if you have any questions or concern please feel free to contact me at the school!

We also had a great board meeting on Monday night!   Our board meetings are usually the second Monday of each month and the beginning session is open for anyone who would like to attend.  If you have any questions feel free to ask!!!

Finally I just wanted to mention that the school has some Saxon textbooks that we are looking to sell.  Before I list them online to sell I thought I might see if any of you know someone who home schools who may want to purchase these.  They are a very popular textbook and will be a great asset to whoever ends up getting them.
